I have always loved the book The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and was so excited when I found out there was going to be a remake of the movie. I am now even more excited because Erin from Miss Crayola Creepy is hosting The Great Gatsby Sewing Challenge in honor of the movie’s premiere on May 10th.
I do not plan to use a specific pattern but instead draw from my Pinterest board inspirations and sort of cobble one together. My pear shape does not lend itself to a flapper style and Eric does not like the style either so I plan to instead incorporate the colors and fabrics of that era into a simple gathered skirt and scoop neck top. Though the challenge doesn’t end until my birthday on May 31st, my goal is to finish in time to wear my dress to the premiere.
I spent the weekend perusing Pinterest in search of some dress inspiration. I already have a super cute pair of vintage style shoes from Bait Footwear that will be perfect. After church Eric and I went to REI for some canoe supplies for him so that gave me a chance to swing by Joann’s for fabric. I settled on a rose-colored taffeta and pink chiffon. I also found some wonderful beige pleated satin and velvet trim that should coordinate nicely with some lace fabric I have in my stash.
Are you planning to join this challenge? If so, I can’t wait to see what creations you come up with!
