Winter Olympics & A Giveaway!

Hope everyone is ready to cheer for their favorites athletes in Sochi. I have never been an athlete (unless you count braving the stores on Black Friday!) but love watching the contestants go for the gold.

I am taking part in the Ravellenic Games 2014 on Ravelry. For the non-knitters out there, the games are a way for knitters to compete in Olympic themed knitting events while watching the actual Olympics. There are even “medals” for completing your items in the stated timeline.

For this year’s games I plan to take part in two events. The first, WIP Dancing, requires me to finish a work-in-process and I actually have two in the category. I’m participating in the Downton Abbey Mystery Knit-Along hosted by Jimmy Beans Wool and also finishing up my first color work sweater, the Top Down Lopi.

My second event is Sweaterboard Cross which requires an entire sweater to be knit from cast on to bind off during the Sochi games. Both events are helping me meet my 2014 resolutions by expanding my skills and using stash yarn!

As a way to share my excitement I am giving away 8 skeins of Gedifra St Tropez yarn in bright red. Each skein is 50g so there is plenty to knit a full size project. Leave a comment by midnight on Wednesday, February 12 and tell me what projects you are working on (they don’t have to be knitting specific). I will randomly pick a winner next Thursday!

  1. I’m about to start a sweater, but still fighting the gague! Ugh!

  2. Ooo! What fun! And as for the giveaway I have the perfect project for it!

  3. Wow, that’s a lot of knitting. I just started a cabled sweater from a Vogue magazine and need to knit the brim of a knitted hat.
I need more yarn like I need a hole in the head but red is my weakness….it’s so pretty…

I’m working on a pair of socks using some beautiful sock yarn my husband brought back for me from England when he was there in December. I’m also working on a WIP, my sock hop sweater. I’m also doing the Downton Abbey MKAL Shawl. Will we get all the clues before the 23rd? Off to work on my sock for a bit. Happy knitting!

    • I haven’t tried socks yet…mainly because I never wear them and mostly knit for myself but seeing all the cool patterns on Ravelry makes me want to try! Next week is the last set of clues for the Downton Abbey MKAL but based on what I read on the JBW blog, it sounds like it will be a repeat of this week’s pattern so the border can be finished. I am starting the Pepper berry Knits Iris Lace Shawl MKAL on the 20th so I want to be finished with the Downton one before then!

I love knitting socks. I think I’m one of a few people who doesn’t get second sock syndrome. lol It would be great to get the final clues from JBW with time to finish before the end of Ravellenics. This is actually my first shawl and mystery knit along. I’m excited to see the end product. I think I might want to find another shawl pattern to make after this.
